About the property

At the intersection of Vaskerelven and Olav Kyrresgate, right by the city park and Torgallmenningen in Bergen, are the buildings Olav Kyrresgate 41 and Vaskerelven 39.

In 2015, both buildings were purchased by VestenFjeldske Eiendom AS, which saw an opportunity to connect the buildings into a single structure. After over a hundred years as two separate addresses, a collaboration was initiated with MAD architects to find a good, modern solution that also preserved the unique history of the building at Olav Kyrresgate 41.

MAD designed a solution with an infill building that occupies the previous gap between the buildings. To create a clean cut between the buildings, emphasis was placed on giving the infill its own identity and highlighting the qualities of both addresses. In the spring of 2020, the result was completed with a fully rehabilitated property featuring all modern amenities.

Our project Infill V39 won Bergen municipality's Architecture and Urban Design Award 2020.

Location

At the intersection of Vaskerelven and Olav Kyrresgate, right by the city park and Torgallmenningen in Bergen lies V39. A better location is hard to find, considering public transport and city life.

Access

You can reach V39 by bicycle and go directly into the bike parking, or park in one of the many different parking garages nearby. The Bybangen bus stop is also just a few minutes away.
